This restoration of a 100 plus year old chromolithograph of a botanical is typical of the challenges encountered in bringing back the vibrant beauty of images printed on fading acidic paper. Similar challenges are encountered repairing physical damage to a photograph. In this case, the only way to reclaim the visual appeal of the botanical was to digitally cut the artwork out and to insert it onto a clean background. Virtually every edge of the image had to be touched, including each thorny spike on the pandanus plant leaf (lower right). This took more hours to complete than we care to admit, but that's what we enjoy doing. A unique and beautiful work of art not available anywhere else!
