Pismo Beach is known all over the world for its clams. Pismo draws some 5,000 clam diggers a month who take home 1,500,000 pounds. Pismo Beach has some of the finest motels to be found in any beach resort area. The pier, originally 1750 feet in length extends 1107 feet to sea, built by W.W. Ward in 1925 at a cost of $120,000. The beach is one of the very few along the coast that is free of rip-tides.
