Fifteen Cent Burger Bar, Redlands, c.1950

The 15 Cent Burger Bar was a star attraction for the families in Redlands, and especially the students from Redlands High School, which was right up the street. This composition was an award-winner in the 2012 Annual National Orange Show Juried Art Exhibition in San Bernardino, the artists’ home town.

The black and white photograph is deconstructed and reimagined as a living color composition by award-winning digital artist Melvin Hale. Hale discovered this talent in May 2006, initially focusing on colorizing exquisite vintage black and white postcard street scenes, which he collects. From there he has moved on to portraits and other historic subjects.
