Founded as Pueblo de San Jose de Guadalupe by St. Jose Joaquin Moraga on November 29, 1777, just some seventeen months after the Declaration was adopted in 1776 in Philadelphia.

By the vote of California's first Constitutional Convention on September the 26th, 1849, San Jose became California's first State Capital. One year prior to the State's Admission to the Union. The Metropolitan area population is approximately one-half million people. It is situated one hundred feet above sea level, has nineteen parks, one hundred and one churches, and is located merely fifty miles south of San Francisco.
